The Pantheon of Queer Mythology at The Victoria & Albert Museum in London

The Pantheon of Queer Mythology is a short film in virtual reality. The viewer is taken through the whimsical worlds of a group of Queer deities representing the struggles, contradictions, hopes, and victories of some queer experiences today. The film is presented in intricate headdresses that invite the audience to take part in the rituals of this new techno-mythology.

The film was selected as part of the Tribeca Film Festival as part of the Cinema 360 category, and went on to recieve several other festivals and accolades, including FIVARS Film Festival, Geneva International Film Festival, or a nomination to VR Film of the Year as part of the 4th International VR Awards. It was exhibited in September of 2022 at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London as part of the Friday Late program.

The project bridges the analog production of fashion with digital media through the use of photogrammetry. The digitization of the models in these physical garments weaves the tactile intricacy of detailed fashion with endless virtual forms of storytelling in a seamless relay of interaction.

The installation of the film at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, in September of 2022 consisted of a stage set with 3 intricate headdresses that contained a VR Headset, which users had to wear in order to watch the art piece. The participation of the audience in the artwork had a twofold effect: firstly, it invited the individual to step into the worlds created inside the artpiece by wearing elaborate headgear in order to access the virtual world; and secondly, it created a public performance resembling a ritual that further exploring the themes of the role that technology might play in the cultural celebrations of the folklore of tomorrow.
